“All this has happened before, and all of it will happen again.”– Leobin, Battlestar Galactica
Don’t know about you, but the Democratic Primary Election is starting to feel like one of those epic 30-part miniseries, or a season of Lost. Just when you think its over: CRAZY TWIST!
Which is soooo ironic given that the whole plan for this year’s primaries in both parties was to have a quick nomination process that culminated with the Feb 5th Super Tuesday event. Now that we know how that worked out, we have to wonder what went wrong?
Only that’s not the right question. Its always like this, as David Greenberg tells us over at Slate magazine.
The year 1972 is when the current primary system came into being, and to review the races ever since is to behold a panorama of Democratic infighting that makes the Clinton-Obama fisticuffs look tame.
[Ed. note: 1972! That’s before even this old man was born!]
In two pages over at Slate, Greenberg lays out the whole history of the modern primary system for Democrats. The moral of the story: it’s not over till it’s over.
