Vettel to Red Bull, it’s Time for Senna

In a big surprise to… absolutely no one who has watched Formula 1 this season, Red Bull announced today hat Sebasitan Vettel will replace David Coulthard once the Scot retires at the end of this season. Now, of course, Vettel’s Toro Rosso team will have to find a replacement for the young German, and there’s no shortage of names to consider.

Personally, I’d love to see GP2 driver Bruno Senna in the STR seat. Senna had brilliant drives in the wet at Monaco and Britain (where have I heard something like that before? Oh yeah – here and here), and has already become a fan favorite in the series. Senna wouldn’t have it easy in F1: he’s said that he doesn’t consider himself experienced enough for a drive at a team like STR, and the expectations placed upon him as the nephew of a beloved triple world champion would be massive. But I think if he can win the GP2 championship this year (something he definitely has a shot at), he’ll prove to himself – and to teams like Toro Rosso that love bringing in drivers new to Formula 1- that he can make it at the top level.
